WhatsApp message templates for EV charging networks

EV charging networks need six templates, four utility, one authentication and one marketing. The utility set covers session receipts, fault or out-of-service alerts, queue and availability updates, and roaming updates, the authentication code secures the driver app, and the marketing message promotes a new site or tariff plan.

Drivers pick chargers on uptime and certainty, and a surprise fault or queue wastes a trip. WhatsApp tells them what is free, what is broken and what they owe before they arrive.

Charging session receipt

Utility

Send it when: A driver has completed a charging session

Hi {{1}}, your session at {{2}} on {{3}} drew {{4}} kWh at a cost of {{5}}. The receipt is in your app, and thanks for charging with us.

Charger fault alert

Utility

Send it when: A charger is reported or found out of service

Hi {{1}}, charger {{2}} at {{3}} is out of service while we repair it. The nearest alternative is {{4}}, and we will message you once it is back online.

Availability and queue update

Utility

Send it when: A site is busy and drivers need real-time status

Hi {{1}}, {{2}} of {{3}} chargers at {{4}} are free right now and there is a short wait at the others. You can reserve a bay in the app before you set off.

Roaming and tariff update

Utility

Send it when: A roaming or tariff change affects a driver's account

Hi {{1}}, from {{2}} your roaming access to {{3}} networks is active and the rate is {{4}} per kWh. No action is needed; your existing app login still applies.

Driver app login code

Authentication

Send it when: A driver signs in to the charging app

Hi {{1}}, your verification code is {{2}}. It expires in ten minutes. If you did not request it, please ignore this message.

New site and plan offer

Marketing

Send it when: Promoting a new location or a subscription plan

Hi {{1}}, we have opened a {{2}}-bay hub at {{3}} and our monthly plan now includes {{4}}. If it suits your routes, reply and we will send the plan details.

How the category changes what you pay

  • Every template is submitted under one category, and Meta assigns the final one in review. A utility template that reads like a promotion can be reclassified as marketing, which changes both the rate and the opt-in requirement.
  • Since 1 October 2026, service messages are charged per delivered message after the first 1,000 free service messages per business phone number per month. The allowance does not roll over and there are no volume tiers.
  • Inbound messages are free, and a customer-initiated message opens the 24-hour customer service window. Anything you start outside that window needs an approved template.
